Walmart Drops Lawsuit Regarding Tesla's Solar Panel Installations

On August 21, 2019, Walmart announced that it was suing Telsa over solar panel installations causing fires. One day later, Walmart announced that they were pausing their lawsuit.

November 5th, 2019, Walmart announced that they were completely dropping the lawsuit that accused Tesla and its subsidiary SolarCity of negligence leading to rooftop fires.

The companies reached a settlement that will keep over 240 solar-powered systems in place at retail outlets across the country.

The terms of the settlement were not disclosed, but the companies released a joint statement saying,

“Walmart and Tesla are pleased to have resolved the issues raised by Walmart concerning the Tesla Solar installations at Walmart stores. Safety is a top priority for each company and with the concerns being addressed, we both look forward to a safe re-energization of our sustainable energy system.”

Walmart continues to plan to get 50% of electricity from sources of renewable energy by 2025.
