5 Reasons You Should Install a Solar Battery

If you’re interested in getting a solar panel installation, there can be a lot of information thrown at you. You’re going to need to do a little research to find out what products will best suit your solar power system. Some solar panel installations are going to need solar panels with the highest efficiency, others will be able to install solar panels with lower efficiency. Some solar panel installations are going to be better suited for a string solar inverter, others are going to be better suited for a microinverter. But should why should a homeowner install a solar battery?

5 Reasons You Should Install a Solar Battery

Installing a solar battery alongside a solar power system seems to be a growing trend. But are there any significant benefits when it comes to installing a solar battery?

Benefit #1: Protection From Rolling Blackouts

Right now, a lot of areas in California are suffering from rolling blackouts. California isn’t the only state that occasionally experiences a grid shut down. A grid shut-down can cause quite a few issues, both minor and major, and long-lasting complications. If your solar power system is still connected to the grid, when the grid goes down, unfortunately, so will your home, even though it runs, for the most part, on solar power. The reason this happens is due to the absence of the ability to store the excess solar power that your solar panel installation produces. But when you add a solar battery to your solar panel installation you will be able to protect yourself.

When you decide to install a solar battery, you can store the excess solar power that your solar panel installations generate, then you can use it at a later time when you’re solar power system isn’t generating any solar power. Then if your grid goes down, in a storm, fire, or heat wave, your home will be protected.

Benefit #2: Get the Most Out of Your Solar Power System

As stated above, in most cases, if you get a solar panel installation, you are still going to be connected to the grid. In the case your solar panels aren’t generating any solar power (at night or when there’s a bad storm), your home is going to turn to the grid for power.

Even though you have a solar power system you will still have to pay for the power that your draw from the grid. However, if you do have a solar panel installation without a solar battery you are going to be able to sell the excess solar power that your solar panels generate, back to the grid, for a discount on your next electricity bill.

If you have a solar battery installed, the excess solar power that is generated can be stored in the solar battery. This way, when the solar panels are producing less energy than normal, you will be able to draw power from the solar battery as opposed to the grid. If you choose to install a solar battery, when you store your excess solar power in batteries instead of selling it back to the grid, you are going to have a lot more control when it comes to your electricity bill.

Benefit #3: Further Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

When you are choosing to get a solar panel installation, you are already reducing your carbon footprint, but when you add a solar battery to your solar power system, you are going to reduce it that much more. When you generate your solar power and store it in a solar battery, you are going to significantly reduce your carbon footprint. When storing solar power in a solar battery, you are going to eliminate the need to draw power from the grid, reducing the amount of power needed from fossil fuels.

Benefit #4: Increase The Value of Your Home

It’s no secret that when it comes to installing solar panels, you increase the value of your home between 3-4.5%. When you add a solar battery to the mix, you are going to increase the value of your home even more. A reason being, an increase in the popularity of rolling blackouts and a rise in the cost of electricity. When you install solar panels and a solar battery, you are essentially making sure that your home is protected from the rising electricity costs, which many people are going to pay a substantial amount for.

Benefit #5: Reduce Your Electric Bill

With rising electricity costs, a lot of homeowners are going to want to ensure that they are hit with a shocking electricity bill. One of the biggest benefits that come with installing a solar battery, is that is going to help you save a significant amount when it comes to your electric bill. When you use to add a back up solar battery, you are going to avoid the extra fees, help homeowners be more self-sufficient, and save all of the solar power that you generate
