Choosing the Best Solar System for Your Home

Investing in solar is not exactly cheap, so when going solar, you’re going to want to make sure you choose the perfect system for your lifestyle. When you see cheap solar panels that look exactly the same as the expensive ones, you’ll probably be tempted to leap right on them and buy them without a second thought. However, you should definitely consider more variables when you make the decision to invest in an expensive solar panel system. Keep reading this article to learn exactly which variables to consider when you make the choice to go solar.

Make Sure You’re Getting a Solid Warranty

A warranty is definitely one of the top things to consider when you’re investing in a solar power system. Those cheap solar systems might look great, but might also only be offering a year warranty, or maybe not offering one at all. Then when it’s cheap and breaks in five years instead of the twenty-five years or more it should last, you won’t be able to get it replaced for free and will have to start all over. Make sure you find a system that comes with a twenty-five year warranty, and make sure the company is trusted and qualified so you can rest easy with the quality of your system.

Make Sure You Choose the Right Type of Panels for You

Many people don’t even realize that multiple types of panels exist. Not only are there options, but they’re an important factor when choosing the right solar panels for you. There are three main types of panels:

The first is monocrystalline, which is one big silicon block. Wafers of silicon are cut individually and then affixed onto the panel. These cells are more efficient than the other two we will be discussing, but making them requires much more difficult labor, making them also more expensive.

The second type is polycrystalline, which are made by melting together multiple silicon crystals. These crystals are refused into the actual panel. They are not as efficient as monocrystalline, but, as suggested earlier, are also less expensive.

The last type is amorphous silicon. These cells are able to create a more flexible solar panel and are therefore most often worked into thinner panels. Unlike the other types, these aren’t crystalline and are directly attached to glass, plastic, or metal substrate. This allows them to be bendable and thin. They are great for how easily they adapt to any kind of surface, but they are also the inefficient type.

Make Sure You Get a Proper Mounting System

A mounting system is what’s going to hold your solar panels on your roof and keep them steady and secure. Make sure your system is wind certified and that the one you choose will be capable of handling the climate in your area and the angle of your roof.

Consider the Costs

There is a reason some solar systems are cheaper than others. While it’s true that a thousand dollar difference probably isn’t a cause for alarm, if you see solar systems being offered at thousands cheaper, you should do your research and check out the specifications, quality of the company, and seek out quality reviews. It’s very unlikely that anyone is offering a solar system for that much cheaper that’s actually at the same quality.
